Saturday Arts Social: Journalling as Self Care

Saturday Arts Social is a multi-arts programme and morning tea designed for our 60+ community. We gather every Saturday morning for a broad programme of events including concerts, art workshops, dance/movement classes and artist talks.

Following Lizanne Knights’ SAS session earlier this year, she will provide the opportunity for reflection on your journaling experience to date, bearing in mind that your journal always meets you where you are in life and without judgement.

Whilst not exclusively for those who journal regularly or who have done so during the last six months, this will be a safe space to share experiences. There will be an opportunity to discuss what aids and what distracts from your journaling .

Do come along ( with your journal) if you want to gain insights and ideas to deepen your practice and/ or you are curious to explore journaling further.

About your facilitator: Lizanne has always been fascinated by what makes us humans tick . This interest guided her educational choices to study Psychology at a post graduate level and subsequently obtain a diploma in Expressive Arts and Groupwork. Her early career was as a management consultant, focussing on psychometric assessment and professional development, whilst she has been engaged with using the Expressive Arts for free expression and healing over the last decade.

As she raised her family, Lizanne shifted her focus towards her own life and she rediscovered journaling as a means of self expression and meaning making. She has used journalling extensively as a way to reflect on her past and current life, record experiences and reframe her perspective. She has found the practice meets her exactly where she is at any given moment and largely without self judgement. She loves being surprised by what emerges onto the page and values the opportunity that journalling can provide for her to tap into her own wisdom. Her expression is predominately in words but patterns, drawings and squiggles also suffice at times.

Lizanne lives in Arrowtown and has called the Whakatipu home for the last 6 years. She has previously lived in Australia, the UK and Southern Africa.
