Central Otago Literary Series - Josiah Morgan.

Fresh from acting at Court Theatre, Josiah is a poet, actor, drama teacher, performer, facilitator, reviewer, editor, and writer from Ōtautahi, Christchurch. In 2026, he was the Visiting Writer at Washington State University's creative writing programme. He is the author of i'm still growing and his novella Road: A Postlapsarian Comedy won the Macmillan Brown Writers Prize in 2021. His work has featured in The Spinoff, Landfall, Out Here and numerous other journals, blogs and magazines.

1 August: Public Talks and Q&A. $30 each for both for $50.

Talk 1, 10 am - 1 pm: Creative Practice as a Way of Living. This talk explores making a living as a creative in Aotearoa, drawing ideas from the world around you, and meaningful ways of embedding creative practice into your day-to-day life.

Talk 2, 2 pm - 5 pm: Writing as a Profession - A Practical Guide. This talk explores the business side of being a writer, concrete steps toward getting published, and how you can put your best foot forward when it comes to creative pursuits.

2 August: Public Workshop. $40.

9 am - 12 noon: Writing from Creative Constraints. In our time together, we will explore numerous ways to get the writing juices flowing, both in poetry and prose. We'll think about storytelling, using restrictions to help unlock creativity and test out a range of new ideas together.
