Te Wāhi Toi/The Arts Place exists to connect the creative community of Queenstown and Wānaka with audiences, students, teachers, spaces and each other. We are a not-for-profit organisation powered by Three Lakes Cultural Trust and inspired by local arts and culture.
Claire Todd guides the examination of how elements of nature and the human form can guide intuitive abstraction such that you can develop a personal visual language grounded in gestural, subconscious exploration.
Abstract Expressionism and the Art of the Subconscious, invites you to explore intuitive mark-making as a means of connecting inner awareness with creative expression – a process that mirrors the fluid interplay between the natural world, the human form, and the subconscious imagination.
This workshop will enable you to produce a resolved abstract artwork reflecting individual expression and flow.
You will come to understand the concept of flow state and its relationship to creativity. You will explore automatic drawing and intuitive painting to bypass conscious control.
