Unlock the Dream World: A Surrealist Collage Journey
Go beyond the ordinary and tap into the extraordinary. This fun workshop is a transformative journey into Surrealism, where intuition is your guide and collage, your medium. Designed for anyone looking to break free from literal thinking, you’ll learn to harness chance, master juxtaposition and develop a unique visual language inspired by masters like Max Ernst and Hannah Höch.
We’ll frame collage as a powerful tool for exploration – using chance, instinct and poetic dislocation to create startling, meaningful imagery.
Over two immersive days, you will learn to:
• understand the core Surrealist concepts of the unconscious, automatism and the marvellous
• create dream-like textured backgrounds using automatist techniques (optional)
• build a personal “image bank” through rapid, instinctual gathering from diverse source materials
• master the art of compelling juxtaposition to craft narratives that feel eerily plausible
• develop a final collage artwork by integrating mixed media elements (ink, paint, thread) for depth and finish
• experience a creative process that values discovery and personal meaning over technical perfection.
No prior art or collage experience is needed! This course is perfect for anyone with curiosity and a willingness to experiment, whether you’re:
• a beginner looking for a supportive, non-intimidating entry into art-making
• an experienced creative seeking to break out of a rut and explore intuitive, concept-driven work
• interested in mindfulness, self-exploration and connecting creativity with the inner world.
